On purpose. Pebbly is meant for children who may not read yet, so every control is a picture. The few words there are sit where a parent needs them: the shop, the credits, and the backup.
Tap any stone on the table. Pick a colour from the tray at the bottom and paint with your finger; stickers like eyes, noses and sunglasses are in the tray too. Pebbly saves as you go, so when you come back to the table your rock is there.
Press and hold a painted rock on the table. Three buttons appear around it: the pencil names it, the arrow shares it or saves it to Photos, and the bin deletes it — tap the bin, then the tick to confirm.
Two stones are free to paint and keep, for ever. The rest come together in one optional purchase, A Little Bag of Rocks. You can open and paint a locked stone to try it; keeping the painting is what the purchase adds.
Tap the gear at the top right, then the round-arrow button to restore your purchase. Make sure the device is signed in with the same Apple ID that made the purchase. The same option is at the bottom of the shop.
Yes, as long as iCloud backup is on (it is unless you turn it off) and iCloud Drive is on for your Apple ID. Tap the gear to check: the line under the cloud says "Backed up" and how long ago. On a new device signed in to the same Apple ID, install Pebbly and your rocks come back by themselves.
Tap the gear. The sun and the moon switch between a light and a dark table, and the three little tables choose how many stones sit side by side.
